Hearing Instrument Special Features

DIRECTIONAL MICROPHONES - This is one of the most effective noise reduction features available on hearing aids. Like the zoom feature on a camera, using 2 microphones, one directed toward the front and one directed toward the rear, the wearer can focus in on what is being presented in front of them while the rear microphone reduces the level of the noise behind. When not in a noisy environment, the hearing aid can be put back into “wide angle” or omni-directional mode for better all around hearing. The microphone settings are controlled remotely or by a push button on the hearing aid. Directional microphones come in many forms; adaptive directional microphones are the most sophisticated.

DIGITAL NOISE CONTROL / NOISE REDUCTION - Algorithms are the computer program instructions or calculations that are used to modify or adjust signals. When used in hearing aids, algorithms are able to modify the temporal and frequency components of the signal. Some advanced algorithms are capable of detecting the difference between noise in relationship to speech. Therefore, the digital processor reduces the noise while amplifying the speech. The processor in the hearing aids is able to tell the difference between steady-state sounds (lawn mower, refrigerator, etc) and fluctuating sounds (speech). The processor then eliminates or reduces the steady-state sounds, while still allowing the speech to come through naturally.

100% AUTOMATIC FUNCTIONING - Most of the new models of hearing aids today function 100% automatically. When you are in noise, they automatically activate your directional microphone (if you have that feature) and when you return to a quiet environment, the hearing aids automatically switch you back to your omni-directional mode. Most digital hearing aids also come standard with the ability to adjust the volume automatically. Both of these features mean no buttons or switches for you to control!

BINAURAL SYNCRONIZATION – Our premium hearing aids incorporate binaural synchronization. This feature is applied when you are wearing binaural amplification. It allows the two devices to work together seamlessly to let you experience “more” sound in the clearest possible way. By coordinating the processing of different sounds as they enter your ears, your relationship with the listening environment will be more comfortable and in greater fidelity.

BLUETOOTH – Some of our hearing aids are Bluetooth compatible. A small body-worn device enables signals from modern communication devices, such as mobile phones, MP3 players, and televisions to be streamed wirelessly into your hearing instruments. If you have two hearing instruments, the sound can be directed to both ears.

.SOUND RECOVER/FREQUENCY TRANSPOSITION – This feature is an effective way to extend hearing by restoring high frequency sounds which would otherwise be inaudible. Audibility of the full spectrum of sounds improves speech understanding, awareness of the sound environment and listening pleasure. This feature is especially important for individuals with very poor speech recognition.

DATA LOGGING – This feature is available on the more advanced models of hearing aids. The hearing aid records your actual usage and recommends adjustments specific to your needs. It allows the Audiologist to see how you are utilizing the hearing aid in your unique listening environments.

REMOTE CONTROLS – Available on the advanced models of hearing aids for easy and discreet access to any manual programs and volume control changes.
