hearing aid trial

Try Before You Buy !

Hearing aids have come a long way in terms of development and are now more advanced than ever. With so many options out there, it can be overwhelming to decide which hearing device works for you.

The most common question we get from our patients about hearing aids is “Will I be happy with my hearing aids?” We understand where they are coming from. After all, hearing aids are an important investment that requires serious consideration.

At Grosse Pointe Audiology, we believe that no number of online reviews can give you all the information you need to make an informed purchase. The only way to understand which aids are suitable for you is to use them in real situations in your everyday life.

Whether you are with friends or merely at home relaxing and watching television, you need to experience the benefits that hearing aids provide in situations you find yourself in every day.

That's why we have developed a program for you to test drive hearing aids before you buy. We have a variety of hearing aids to satisfy all budgets and hearing needs and will work with you to find one that suits you.

You can return to our office during this original trial period in order to evaluate your experiences and make further adjustments to the fit or settings. After the two weeks, we will consult with you to figure out whether your hearing instrument is a good fit for you.

Top tips for a successful “Try Before You Buy” experience

Those wearing hearing aids for the first time often note that everything sounds very loud during the first few days of use. Suddenly the keyboard clicks, moving furniture and even the squeaks of your shoes will be heard loud and clear. These are sounds you haven’t heard in a long time, so your brain needs a little time to get used to them. Don't let this get to you too much. To really get the best out of your hearing aids during your test drive, here’s a little guide.

  • Begin by wearing the hearing aids at home for up to 12 hours a day.
  • After you're comfortable wearing it for long periods, try having a one-on-one conversation with a friend at home.
  • Now try using them outside. These sounds are going to be noisy, but don't worry, your brain will get better at filtering the unnecessary sound out.
  • It's now time to try to wear the hearing aids in a noisy setting such as a cafe. This is one of the toughest environments to use your hearing aids, so don't worry if you find it difficult and can't wear them for too long.
  • Finally, try to have a conversation with a small group of friends. It won't be easy, but with more practice, you'll get better and be able to participate fully in the conversation.

People wait about seven years for hearing loss to be treated. In the years that pass, the brain "forgets" certain sounds and upon receiving treatment, needs to learn again how to process them. If you have become familiar with hearing loss, it can be overwhelming to wear hearing aids and hear sounds missing.

Don't let that put you off. Grosse Pointe Audiology’s “Try Before You buy” experience helps you familiarize yourself with the feeling of the device in your ear, as well as learn how to process these sounds again. We're confident that once you have adapted to the hearing aids that are right for you, you wont be able to part with them!
